Air
Fresheners
Air fresheners come in a wide
array of shapes, sizes and even purposes. To begin with, there is the
simple Spray Can kind of air freshener that you spray around the house
or office to purify the air. In fact, with such air fresheners, there is
no actual purification involved. The contents of the can are more often
than not a sort of a scent that gives one the feeling of inhaling fresh
air. No wonder then that such basic air fresheners come in tantalizing
scents like citrus bloom, lavender mystique and the like.
There are slightly more advanced air fresheners as well. Typically,
these air fresheners integrate with the home or small office
electrically powered air purifying systems. While the system purifies
the air through a combination of processes like charcoal filters, pollen
filters and the like, the air fresheners serve as an add on tool to
remove bad odours and to provide a fresh and clean scent. Again, like
with the Spray can variety of air fresheners, you have the option of
choosing a variety of scents.

In our home, we use this type of an air freshener and there are battles
galore about what scent will go into it. While my wife prefers an air
freshener that is more citric in nature and often buys pine and lavender
scented air fresheners, I prefer the more manly musk scents. The result
is that our house has a variety of air freshener scents, depending on
which room you are in. My study has an air freshener that smells
strongly of musk and wood while the bedroom has an intoxicating
(according to my wife!) scent of lavender. Our kids are gad to have any
air freshener as long as the stench of week old pizzas and other debris
can be kept at bay!
There are also the industrial variety of air fresheners, which are used
in industries, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and other such places
where the quantities of air that need to be freshened are vast and
demand more thorough air purification and freshening. Even
horticulturists are known to use air fresheners to promote the speedy
growth of certain varieties of plants. Most office building that have a
centralized air conditioning plant or system also tend to use industrial
varieties of air fresheners to clean and purify the air.
A number of studies have been conducted on air fresheners and the
opinions are divided. Most experts believe that air fresheners, being
unnatural, are harbingers of doom. They have conducted research that
shows that for air fresheners, especially those that come in pressurized
cans, the CFC content could lead to carcinogenic results. Others re of
the opinion that if used in moderation, air fresheners have a tendency
to negate the harmful effects of bacteria, dust and other irritants
commonly found in households. Speaking for myself, I have been using air
fresheners for close to a decade now. And I continue to remain hale,
hearty and healthy. So I guess I will continue to use air fresheners for
some time to come!

Title: Aromatherapy: A Recipe to Help Spice Up A Romantic Evening
Author: Evelyn Lim
Article:
Aromatherapy can be used to promote healing to the body, to
suppress appetite or for your skin care regime. Aromatherapy
stimulates your mind and emotions, by using natural herbs and
plants for their scents. This is through the use of candles,
oils, inhalers, or diffusers. With its ability to affect mood
changes, aromatherapy can be used extensively to help you spice
up your romantic life.
When you release the scent of a plant into the atmosphere, you
can experience benefits that are inherent to the plant. Some of
these therapeutic and healing benefits are directly absorbed
into the skin by use of aromatic baths, oils, massages, and
lotions. Some plants and herbs are useful as antiseptics, while
others simply may help to stimulate the mind. There are also
plants that promote blood circulation, while others may be a
natural insect repellent. Some plants are natural aphrodisiacs,
which are used to initiate romantic feelings. These plant oils
can enhance excitement and set you in the mood for love.
The fragrances that many plants carry are also powerful by
themselves. Citrus is well revered for initiating feelings of
energy and happiness and Lavender is known for bringing
relaxation and peace.
In the wild, animals use scent to attract their mates. This is
not so different with people either. Many people choose a
perfume or cologne based upon its ability to attract the
opposite sex. Scent can be arousing and pleasing to the senses,
or it can be a deterrent and have the opposite of the intended
effect. Because of this, you should choose your scent carefully.
Read up on scents and the feelings that they are supposed to
invoke will help you make a wise selection.
Here is a recipe for you to help spice up an evening with your
date with aromatherapy. Before your date comes over for a
romantic dinner for two, scent the room first. You can make your
own sensually scented air fresheners. This is a great way to
create a romantic atmosphere in a short time.
To create your own air freshener you will need a spray or pump
bottle, 1-½ ounces of distilled water, 1-½ ounces of Vodka and
20 to 30 drops of your selected essential oil. Blend all of the
ingredients in the bottle. You may want to create the air
freshener 24 hours before you plan to use it so that all of the
oils may cure.
Shortly before your date arrives, take a warm sensual bath oil
that will stimulate the senses and leave you smelling exotic.
For the bath oil, you will need carrier oil, such as one ounce
of Sweet Almond oil, 10 drops of Jasmine Oil, 5 drops of
Sandalwood, and 5 drops of Lime oil. Blend all of the oils with
the carrier oil. You can run a hot bath and put the oil in your
bath. Soak for at least 20 minutes in this sensually delightful
bath.
Next, when you are setting up the table for two, why not select
candles that have natural aphrodisiac properties? Patchouli and
Sandalwood are two aphrodisiacs and you can easily purchase
aromatic candles that have these essential oils added to them.
The recipe to spice up your romantic life with the use of
aromatherapy is a winner! You will find this recipe useful to
transit from the stresses of the day to a romantic and cosy mood
for the evening with your partner.

Title: Bacteria and Household Cleaners
Author: Vincent Platania
Article: Bacteria are a fact of life. Most are harmless to humans because we have been building up an immunity to them since the day we were born. And no matter the amount of cleaning you do, bacteria can never be completely eradicated from your home, and surprisingly, to some extent they shouldn't be. This is because some are actually beneficial to you. But, most bacteria you find lurking in your home are not the good kind. That being said, maintaining a clean and healthy household has plenty of merits, regardless of whether bacteria remains behind. Here are some facts about bacteria and household cleaners that keep them in check.
Choosing Antibacterial Cleaners
Do not bother cluttering your precious storage space with a multitude of antibacterial cleaners. Save yourself some money and choose an environmentally friendly concentrated household cleaner to use in a variety of places. These multi-purpose cleaners contain disinfectants and quaternary germicidal systems to effectively clean and reduce the number of bacteria in your home (FULLER Fulson Quaternary Germicidal Cleaner). Suitable for most non-porous surfaces, they work best when allowed to remain for a specified amount of time (refer to directions on the label) to kill a wide range of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Use them on counters, sinks, bathtubs, shower stall, floors, walls, appliances - just about any area you want cleaned, disinfected, and deodorized.
Our floors require more attention than most other areas of our home. They are everywhere in the house and used more than any other surface. We leaves traces of everything we have walked on outside onto our floors, whether we can see it or not. We spill drinks, drop food, spray perfume and air fresheners, all of which soils our floors and makes them a haven for bacteria and other germs to grow. Use an earth friendly floor cleaner to make your floors clean, shiny, and looking their best again (FULLER Dad Fuller's Oil Soap), and to eliminate the germs that may be breeding on them. For wood floors especially, make sure to use a mild, low sudsing cleaner.
And then there's grease. Greasy dirt specifically from food is loaded with bacteria, some of which is harmful to your health. Grease also acts like a magnet to attract dust, small bugs, and other germ-carrying particles. In this case, a heavy-duty cleaner is in order for tough, greasy jobs (FULLER 4x Concentrated Power Fulsol Degreaser).
Can Your House Be Too Clean?
In a word, yes. There have been rising concerns about disease-causing strains of bacteria that are becoming resistant to antibiotics. Experts postulate that there will come a point where diseases we once thought had been eradicated forever will return as mutated strains and once again pose a threat to our health, with no chance of being controlled or cured by antibiotics. The same reasoning can be applied to eliminating germs in the home. Overuse of disinfectants and antibacterial household products may inhibit our ability to develop antibodies to the most harmless of bacteria, thus making them harmful. Best to aim for a reduction of harmful bacteria in our homes, and to make peace with the others.
