After reading the report, I honestly became quite frightened at the thought of such an accident happening in my home. One accident is all it takes and it could mean the house Going Up In Flames or even worse, a family member being killed, it happens!! Are all of my electrical installations correctly wired? Is my microwave working safely? But the most frightening thing of all what about Carbon Monoxide. Being tasteless and odourless I can,t know if it,s present in my home! I decided to have my whole house completely checked for safety.
I rang around a few electrical contractors within my area and whilst most of them offered an electrical safety check, none of them offered a Carbon Monoxide Gas or Microwave Leakage check. I decided to go ahead anyway and at least have all of my electrical appliances checked. The cheapest quotation I could find was £58 plus V.A.T. The contractor who arrived was on my premises no more than 15 minutes, and to my surprise he didn,t even remove the covers from any of the Wall Sockets but used a small piece of testing equipment, which indicated if the Sockets were correctly wired.
Whilst I felt that £58 plus V.A.T. was rather expensive just for 15 minutes simple work, at least I now had peace of mind. It was at this point that the ideas light came on in my mind and my thoughts began to formulate.
My first step was to check my own local Yellow Pages. I found several electricians offering Domestic repairs and installations and I found three offering electrical testing within their range of services. I decided to telephone two of them asking for a quotation for the inspection and testing of all my electrical installations, the cheapest quotation I received was £58 plus V.A.T. the other quoted �60. None of them were o interested in Carbon Monoxide Gas or Microwave Leakage testing. My next step was to establish if any specialist certified qualifications were needed and to my surprise I found that this business could be started without the need for any specific special qualification. My next step was to purchase a few items of equipment, which are readily available to any DIY enthusiast, at a very reasonable price. I played around with a few figures and I was very pleasantly surprised at just what I could potentially earn per day for little or no manual work. Have a look at the following figures.. I calculated that charging the average homeowner as little as £15 to £25 would not only be very hard for any larger companies to compete with but would be well within the range of all homeowners and excellent value for money. So taking an average of £15.00 per customer an average days earnings could be; Servicing 12 Customers Per Day = 3 Hours (approx) 12 x £15.00 = £180.00 Per Day (approx) £180.00 x 5 = £900.00 Per Week (approx) That,s For Only 15 Hours Work Per Week!
