Why We All Should Be Going Green   by John Kuzniar

The green lifestyle is not about gardening. It is more about reducing the environmental impact that you and your family has on the planet.

For instance, they purchase air conditioners that do not release freon into the air, they purchase refrigerators and appliances that are energy efficient, they utilize washing machines and dish washers that conserve water, and where possible, they use bicycles or walk to get around local areas in place of using gas guzzling cars.

The earth is full of natural resources that seem to be endless in quantity. But, it is all an illusion. Every resource has its limits The population of the earth growing to extents that no one imagined a hundred years ago. And, it is past time that we all begin to take care of our environment the best ways that we are able to.

Whenever, we as humans, inflict damage on the earth we end up using up its resources at a faster pace than they can be replenished. For instance, in the middle to late 1700s, American buffalo were outright slaughtered in the millions. And, as a group, they were not slaughtered for food or for survival. They were wiped out for their skins. And they were slaughtered to make way for the railways. On the African plains today, thousands of elephants have been killed by poachers solely for their tusks. And across the seas, sharks have been butchered by the millions, for their fins alone. The fins are sliced off at sea and their carcasses are wasted and discarded back into the sea.

As humans, we are caretakers of the earth by default. We are the only species with the intelligence to do so. Unfortunately, we have done a really poor jog of actually caring for it. The end result may well be that we go the way of the dinosaur with our species practically disappearing from the planet.

People who are genuinely in earnest about trying to live green, are concerned about all of the resources of the earth. This means being concerned about the animals and plants in addition to the environments in which they are found - i.e., the land, air, oceans, and seas.

They have no trouble making the connection that the more fossil fuels that we burn, the greater danger we put the earth in. They know that as we burn more fossil fuels, the more we will warm the surface of the earth. And that this warming will ultimately cause great population migration shifts due to flooding caused by ever rising sea levels. They can make the connection that the more of the rain forests that we destroy, the greater the chances are that we are also destroying possible miracle cures hidden in undiscovered plants that may be over a million year old.

Are you not yet living a green lifestyle, but would like to? If so, take a look at the life choices that you are currently making. Then analyze what effects your current habits are having on the earth's resources. Once you have done this, you can then start to make the personal changes needed to protect those resources from disappearing. Interested in solar power? Gardening in Containers   by T

Container gardens can create a natural sanctuary in a busy city street, along rooftops or on balconies. You can easily accentuate the welcoming look of a deck or patio with colourful pots of annuals, or fill your window boxes with beautiful shrub roses or any number of small perennials. Whether you arrange your pots in a group for a massed effect or highlight a smaller space with a single specimen, you'll be delighted with this simple way to create a garden.

Container gardening enables you to easily vary your color scheme, and as each plant finishes flowering, it can be replaced with another. Whether you choose to harmonize or contrast your colors, make sure there is variety in the height of each plant. Think also of the shape and texture of the leaves. Tall strap-like leaves will give a good vertical background to low-growing, wide-leaved plants. Choose plants with a long flowering season, or have others of a different type ready to replace them as they finish blooming.

Experiment with creative containers. You might have an old porcelain bowl or copper urn you can use, or perhaps you'd rather make something really modern with timber or tiles. If you decide to buy your containers ready-made, terracotta pots look wonderful, but tend to absorb water. You don't want your plants to dry out, so paint the interior of these pots with a special sealer available from hardware stores. Cheaper plastic pots can also be painted on the outside with water-based paints for good effect. When purchasing pots, don't forget to buy matching saucers to catch the drips. This will save cement floors getting stained, or timber floors rotting. Always use a good quality potting mix in your containers. This will ensure the best performance possible from your plants.

If you have steps leading up to your front door, an attractive pot plant on each one will delight your visitors. Indoors, pots of plants or flowers help to create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Decide ahead of time where you want your pots to be positioned, then buy plants that suit the situation. There is no point buying sun lovers for a shady position, for they will not do well. Some plants also have really large roots, so they are best kept for the open garden.

If you have plenty of space at your front door, a group of potted plants off to one side will be more visually appealing than two similar plants placed each side. Unless they are spectacular, they will look rather boring. Group the pots in odd numbers rather than even, and vary the height and type. To tie the group together, add large rocks that are similar in appearance and just slightly different in size. Three or five pots of the same type and color, but in different sizes also looks affective.

With a creative mind and some determination, you will soon have a container garden that will be the envy of friends and strangers alike. Go join some fishing organizations.

How To Get Rid Of A Wasps Nest   by Evan Michaels

Imagine you are enjoying your backyard, doing some gardening ...when out of NOWHERE, wasps hovering around you, not letting you enjoy yourself!

Wasps are intimidating, usually travel in packs, and can be quite dangerous (and quite painful!).

It can be a terrifying sight for some, seeing a wasp hovering around them. A lot of people literally panic because they are so scared of these little buggers.

Even worse, is if you search around your backyard one day and out-of-the-blue find a giant wasps nest taunting you from enjoying yourself, it can be a serious nuisance.

Option number 1- You hire professional exterminators.

Having the professionals come in is always nice. You know they are going to get the job done and make your life worry free. But there IS a downside.

They are expensive. They cannot guarantee the wasps will stay away. They might have to come in again and again charging you more and more money.

Option number 2 - Attact their nest with sprays.

Again, you may have to purchase the sprays over and over ...not just because they don't work, but because you have to do a perfect job. Not to mention most of them are not good for you or the environment.

Plus, you'd better make sure to do it right the first time, otherwise you might upset wasps, and they might try and take revenge on you!

Option number 3 - Booby trap your yard.

Traps work, but how well? Can you actually dry out a wasps nest by luring in all the wasps?

The answer is ...traps alone won't get rid of a wasps nest. They will help you enjoy your yard/balcony, and might be a great solution if you live in an apartment building, or your neighbours wasps won't leave you alone.

Option number 4 - Leave them alone.

It's amazing how many people will idly sit by and hope that the wasps will just go away. Or people retreat and don't deal with the actually problem.

The longer you leave the wasps nest, the bigger it will grow and the more comfortable the wasps will get.

Is that all there is?

Are there any other options to help you get rid of a wasps nest yourself?

The good news is, yes!

The bad news is I am unable to give you the long version of the answer in this short article. The good news is I can share with you a MUST-use tip that will help you any time you are trying to get rid of a wasps nest yourself. Do it at night time, when all the wasps are in their nest. IF you don't, you will likely miss many of the wasps. So even if you do get rid of the nest, chances are the wasps you missed will rebuild stronger than ever.
