A baby monitor can be essential, at least to worried new
parents. A new mother can't stand to be without her baby monitor if she has to
be out of the room with her baby for more than five minutes. A baby monitor can
solve many of her problems by letting her know that her baby is okay. Basically,
the baby monitor works by transmitting any sounds the baby makes down to a
transmitter which the mother or father, or anyone else taking care of the baby
can listen to. This lets them know if the baby is crying, gurgling, or sleeping
soundly.
This is no substitute for regularly checking on the baby because a baby monitor
will not tell if the baby is choking on something or facing some other kind of
serious medical distress. All that the baby monitor will do is tell you if the
baby is upset. This can let you know that it might be time to change the diaper,
or that the baby should be rocked or carried, or just gently held, but there are
so many different troubles that a baby can get into, especially if it is a new
born baby, or at least one under the age of two.
Once the baby starts to walk, or crawl around a lot, however, the baby monitor
isn't of much use. Many stronger and more intelligent and enterprising baby's
actually figure out a way to get out of their cribs and crawl around the house,
so a baby monitor wouldn't even help you hear them because they would not be
their. This is why two things are necessary for all babies: close supervision,
and baby proofing the house.
Close supervision is really the most important thing with all children. The
parent must know that the kid is not getting into trouble or being hurt, or
anything else potentially dangerous. HE or she must look after the childs
welfare at all time, by using a baby monitor when they are young, but by
constantly keeping an eye on them later. Most disasters that happen to young
children are preventable.
Baby proofing the house means covering up anything that the baby could
accidentally get into. A baby monitor is not enough once the baby can crawl. The
parents should block electric outlets, keep breakable stuff under lock and key,
and firearms somewhere where the baby can't find them. Chemicals should not be
stored under the sink unless the sink itself is baby proofed by being locked, or
closed in such a way that only an adult can get inside.
Babies R Us is one of the best places to visit online or in person when you are
looking for just the right baby monitor or baby gifts. This baby super store has
locations in most cities throughout the United States. The store is associated
with the well-known Toys R Us specialty store and it offers some of products
that can be found in the associate chain as well as items specific to the Babies
R Us retail stores.
Right now the Babies R Us online is offering some wonderful ideas for the
nursery. The baby super store has several collections that you can browse
through with the touch of a button. The great nursery designs can be purchased
online or you can see the products up close in the store before making a
decision on whether or not you want to buy the items.
There are certain things that are offered exclusively online and there are other
items that can only be purchased in the baby super store. I discovered this
while I was creating my gift registry two year ago. I also discovered that the
baby super store covers a lot of area and there are a lot of gift registries in
action.
My gift registry was not unique. I don’t mean that I chose typical items that an
expecting mother normally does. I mean that the baby super store had another
person in the same town register one month before I did. This person and I share
the same name. Even though Babies R Us diligently kept the two registries
separate, the guests at my baby shower did not.
The funny thing about the whole episode was that the lady who shares my name was
having triplets. Her registry was massive, spanning a jaw-dropping eight pages
in length. My sister-in-law made a comment about how I gave the guest a lot of
options on my registry, but I didn’t really understand what had happened until I
began opening presents and looking at the receipts.
I opened present after present and I had asked for none of them. When I checked
the gift receipts, I saw that they came from the baby superstore and that they
were from a gift registry. After I got home, I immediately went online to check
my registry. When I entered my name, two options came up. The first was for the
lady who was having triplets.
The clerk at the store was extremely helpful as I returned the items for the
other lady’s account and replaced them with ones from mine. It took an entire
afternoon, but I could easily spend an entire day at the baby super store.
Title: A Baby Monitor For Peace Of Mind
Author: Heather Owens
Article:
Having a little baby is a wonderful thing, bringing endless
moments of joy to the new parents. Lurking behind that joy,
though, is always the fear that something could go wrong. As
parents, we'd love to spend every minute of the day and night
with our baby, but it's just not possible. Apart from anything
else, new babies produce a LOT of washing! With a baby monitor,
though, you can still hear your baby's breathing, every little
movement, which is almost as good as being in the room with them.
A baby monitor operates in a similar way to a cordless phone,
and generally has multiple channels so you can pick the clearest
one. The best monitors have a portable receiver, so that you can
move freely around the house, perhaps even short distances
outside, and still maintain constant contact with your baby.
Having a baby monitor can't stop you from worrying, but they can
certainly give you enormous peace of mind when you need the
freedom to move about in the house and get things done.
The baby monitor market is very crowded, and there are a lot of
similarities between the different models. However there are
still a few key decisions you need to make. Firstly, you have to
choose between AC and battery. This will mostly be determined by
how much freedom of movement you require. If you regularly move
your baby's sleeping location about the house, it may be better
to have a battery model that is easy to shift too. This is
particularly true if your power points always seem to lurk in
difficult places behind furniture! Many AC models have battery
backup, or even a battery option, which means that if the power
fails the baby monitor will still work. It also means that if
you only need to move the monitor occasionally, you can simply
unplug it and use the battery option in another location.
Modern baby monitors often include a display monitor. This can
range from a simple light showing you when the baby monitor is
on and functional, right through to a display that tracks the
level of sound picked up by the monitor. It can be helpful to
have an "out of range" indicator, so you know if you're no
longer able to receive the transmission. Most models with
batteries also come with a low battery indicator, so you know
when to change the batteries.
It's important to place the baby monitor as close to the crib as
possible, so that the majority of the sounds transmitted are the
sounds of the baby, not background noise. However you must be
careful to make sure that the transmitter isn't located where it
might get knocked down if the crib moves suddenly.
Baby monitors range in price from the super budget models right
through to top of the range. $40 is quite an average price, and
certainly if you're going to pay a lot more than that, you need
to think about whether you're paying too much. In the end, the
right model for you will depend on what features you want. So
paying a rock bottom price for your baby monitor may end up
costing you a lot more in frustration, if it doesn't suit your
needs.
Once you know basically what features you need in your baby
monitor, it's worth spending some time shopping online to find
the models that meet your requirements. Then you can start
looking for the best price. Discount and baby stores, too, often
have a reasonable range of models and prices, and sometimes you
will be able to test a model in store.
There are also websites that compare and rate baby monitors
based on consumer feedback, which can help you make a decision.
In the end, you're entrusting the safety of your baby to the
baby monitor, when you can't be with your baby in person, so the
last thing you need is a model that doesn't work properly for an
extended period of time.
Remember, too, if purchasing a baby monitor isn't quite in your
budget right now, that someone amongst your friends and family
may well be keen to give you something so useful. Your baby can
only wear so many cute outfits, whereas a baby monitor is a gift
that will definitely be both practical and welcome. Even if
you're not the one expecting a baby, a baby monitor can be a
great baby shower gift.
It's easy to get caught up in all the cute stuff that's
available for a baby's nursery, but all the cute stuff in the
world can't give you the peace of mind a baby monitor can. About the author:
